the death that stalked us at

every turn. Like sonar pinging

from sub to sub through the

inky black waters of the abyss

after the crazy exertion of just standing up

after sinking gratefully onto our soft bed

       OK?                         OK.

after lying back, letting me cover you,

breathing a deep sigh of release

      OK?
