Bon Voyage

There was one day when you simply wanted

to “go.” Your body would not allow it,

nor would the wider world. With effort

we booked passage on the wheeled chair

you hated, but now could not move without.

Then we embarked on The Grand Tour:

From the bedroom to look out the front door

Ah, it is time to water the lawn…

through the kitchen

clicketty clack across the tile floor

to the French doors where the sun streamed in

Mon cher (smooch), what a beautiful day!

down the back hall

clunketty thump across the wood floor

onto the screened porch under the trees

Listen -- the woodpecker is drumming!

back around to look out the front door

Ah, it is time to water the lawn…

again through the kitchen

      clicketty clack ...

and around

         and around

                  and around

until whatever ticking circuit in your brain

was satisfied. Finally sated, you dozed.

Not surprising. We had, after all,

traveled the whole of the world

left to us.
