Don't Judge A Book

Two guys --

one scarier than the other.

First guy:

big, bald, with tattoos

scrawled all over his skull.

Chain on his wallet,

nails in his boots.

My aging dad with

no social filters

just had to comment,

much to my dismay.

But Scott was understanding,

kind and funny. After that,

he joked with dad each time

they met at the diner.

Second guy:

tall, shaggy, dreadlocked.

Tattoos crawled over his knuckles,

his throat, his face. Black T-shirt

emblazoned with Nazi symbols,

bazookas, offensive slogans.

But Jeremy sells flowers

at the farmers market,

has a big white dog that he

always brings to the water dish.

When I offer him a cuppa tea

at the end of the day he smiles

and says thank you, yes,

how lovely.

The covers of these books perplex me.

Oh, how I want to read more!
