I carry with me coins of silence.

I pick them up throughout the

day, finding them in the lost

moments between appointments

and tasks of small importance.

I spy them in the corners of

busy rooms when I stand alone,

letting the tide of conversation

wash around me.

These coins travel with me

in a deep pocket and will

never be spent, for my hands

seek them out, finger them

like prayer beads, when the

noise of the world becomes

overwhelming.
