Fold them gently

     (or perhaps roughly)

tuck them carefully

     (or stuff them rudely)

into the backpack

that we all wear but

cannot be seen.

Shoulder the past

and bring it forward

with you into today.

Know that it hangs

there, just behind

you. If needed, you

can find a familiar

face, well-loved but

long gone

(or leave the pack

zipped tightly shut,

a weight to carry

until such time you

feel the strength to

let the burdens out.)
